keith negley

Really like the work of Keith Negley

He uses handmade textures but puts the illustrations together digitally, I think this is quite an effective way of making work that isn't massively time consuming yet still has the handmade aesthetic. I think that is the direction my work seems to be heading, I love making textures and re-using textures from mono-printing, but having to cut out all the different bits takes up a lot of time, can be a bit messy and if you do it wrong you can't just delete the layer you have to start again. I've made a few pieces now using this process which I think have turned out rather well - like my Life Aquatic poster and my illustrations for CoP.

match boxes

I love the style of vintage matchbox designs:

I think it could be a nice idea to design my own matchbox for my promotional pack, it could have my details on the back. I was thinking it could hold mini matches, or maybe even mini pencils to the illustrator aspect?

atelier bingo

I've recently discovered Atelier Bingo - a collaborative duo of Maxime Prou and Adele Favreau, both illustrators and surface pattern designers

I love the liveliness of their work, exciting colours, patterns and textures. I've found myself getting interested in surface pattern, I really enjoy playing around with different textures, making patterns and then finding a way to apply it to my work. I love their experimental process with the torn bits of paper, playing around with layouts - I want to try make work more in this playful way.
