I love Laura Carlin's work, her use of multiple materials - collage, paint, pencil, work together so well to create abstract and rather dream-like scenes. My favourite pieces of her work come from the book she illustrated 'iron man'
I love the way she uses negative space to create atmosphere, having little bits of detail next to a big bit of texture leads the eye round the page and makes quite a lonely atmosphere within the illustration.
She transfers the same style onto her 3D work, they are just like her drawings come to life which I find really clever
I take a lot of inspiration from her process of working and her looseness within the image making but also her consideration of composition and material use to create a certain tone of voice.
